Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. Colossians 3:17 I absolutely love serving as a volunteer at One Night. This years event did not disappoint! By God’s grace we were able to serve the special needs community as well as their families and caregivers throughout the Tri-County. Leviticus 19:14 makes it clear that as the people of God we are called to serve the special needs community with the love of God. Jesus provides the greatest example of God’s compassion toward those with disabilities. Jesus did not allow the disability to define the person rather he recognized and celebrated their humanity- Mark 1:41 tells us that He was “moved with compassion” to heal the leper who came to Him. Christ reached out to the blind, deaf, paralyzed, and mentally ill throughout His ministry, showing that God created those with special needs in order to display His power and strength in their weaknesses (Matthew 15:31, John 9:1– 3).
The vision behind One Night is to help adults with developmental and physical differences see practical expressions of God’s great love. This event is also designed to provide encouragement to family members and caregivers as they constantly face unique challenges. My prayer for One Night is that God will also continue to use this ministry to create a culture of acceptance within our own faith community. It was obvious that those who served at One Night this year were focused on loving our guest and encouraging family members and caregivers. Providing a platform that moved our guest from their tables to the dance floor and even into the party bus was awesome. Obviously the stroll down the red carpet with an escort was priceless. The Disney characters, makeup artist food servers and host help create a special environment for the evening. Everyone who served simply did an amazing job! After the images are uploaded to our site you will be able to reflect on the event by scrolling through the New Life photo gallery. As you remember the events from One Night I hope that you know that God was pleased as our volunteer base served this special community in the name of our Lord. Pastor Billy Comments are closed.
