A few weeks back we started a sermon series from the book of Nehemiah called Entrusted with the Gospel. The idea behind this series is that God has entrusted Christians with the gospel and we must take hold of that responsibility and remain faithful. If you are an older Christian you have the responsibility of investing godly character into the next generation as you continue to grow in your faith. If you are a younger believer hopefully you are in a season of life where you are receiving investment from older disciples as you continue to grow in the character of Christ. Nehemiah provides a model of a leader that was intentional about investing godly attributes into his community for the purposes of God. His call is similar to the call we have been given as the body of Christ. As we set our focus on advancing the gospel to the next generation, Nehemiah is a great example to consider.
As you think about the responsibility of advancing the gospel I want to encourage you in two specific areas. As disciples, we must commit ourselves to the regular intake of Gods Word. Spiritual growth comes as you know the mind of Christ. The beginning of 2020 is a great time to commit yourself to the study of scripture. As a church we are reading through the Bible together this year. If you do not have a current study plan let me encourage you to join others at New Life and do the read through the Bible in a year plan. The reading plan is available in the newsletter and the weekly program. Also the first Sunday evening of each month we will meet to talk about the role of discipleship. If you are involved in a discipleship relationship or if you would like to be involved, make plans to meet at New Life on February 2nd from 5-6pm. We are calling this monthly meeting Encounter. My prayer is that many years from now we will look back on 2020 and we will see that this year was formative in the life of our church. I know Nehemiah will provide encouragement as we consider the responsibility of advancing the gospel to the next generation. This year, give yourself to the study of God’s Word and the joy of doing life with others for the sake of the gospel. I hope to see you Sunday. Pastor Billy Comments are closed.
