II Thessalonians Sermon Series: Faithfulness

​This Sunday we begin a study in the book of 2 Thessalonians. You will quickly discover that Paul intends to bring encouragement to a church experiencing confusion, disillusionment, and discouragement.  The reason they had such heavy hearts is because they believed that they had missed the second coming of Christ. As a result Paul responds with instructions about Judgment Day: the day of transition between redemption and restoration. 

​We, too, experience challenging circumstances that confuse and discourage us.  The reality is that 2020 has been a difficult year. The church of our day seems to have little influence in a world desperately seeking direction. I think the study of 2 Thessalonians is timely and will serve as a great reminder as we focus our attention on the faithfulness of God. We are reminded of this marvelous truth in 2 Thessalonians 3:3 where Paul writes, “But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.”

Paul proclaims that God alone faithfully protects His church from the adversary. He is the one who shields, leads, guides, and strengthens us for the journey. Our faithful God makes a way where there is no way. He is the Lord God who sees what we can not see and He is the God who makes provision for us before the need arises. My prayer is that 2 Thessalonians provides strength for this troubled hour as we come to worship our faithful God.
