I am blessed

6/3/2021

2 Samuel 5:10
Several weeks back I started studying the life David out of 1 Samuel. My study now  has me in 2 Samuel 5. In this famous chapter David is anointed king of Israel. He has  already served as king over Judah for seven years and six months. God initially  revealed that David would be king to the prophet Samuel. It seems that in those early  years David was focused on developing godly character. His character was informed  by the law of God. He has been is the school of life and his actions, although not  perfect, have been reflective of the nature of God. He is convinced that God is  sovereign and in control of the events surrounding his life. This has enabled him to be  bold in his actions and walk with confidence.

David was chosen by God to be king. There was nothing spectacular about David. In 2  Samuel 5 David becomes king of the united monarch. He was 30yrs old and all  together he served as king for 40yrs over the house of Israel. 2 Samuel 5:10 is a  proclamation to Israel and the surrounding nations that God is with David. I love this  verse: And he became more and more powerful, because the Lord God Almighty was  with him. God blessed David with wealth, power, prestige, influence. His life was  blessed by God. Davids’s life demonstrated the connection between knowing the ways  of God, putting them into practice and receiving His blessing.
One of the foundational truths throughout the bible is that obedience leads to blessing.  To know the favor of God is to know His precepts and to walk in His ways. Here are a  few passages that clearly communicate this important truth.
Proverbs 3:1-4 says “My son, do not forget my teaching,
But have your heart comply with my commandments; For length of days and years of  life And peace they will add to you. Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find  favor and a good reputation
In the sight of God and man.
Proverbs 11:27 says One who diligently seeks good seeks favor, But one who seeks  evil, evil will come to him. Proverbs 12:2 adds A good person will obtain favor from the  Lord, But He will condemn a person who devises evil.
James 1:25
But one who has looked intently at the perfect law, the law of freedom, and has  continued in it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an active doer, this person will  be blessed in what he does.
John 13:16-17
“Truly, truly I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent  greater than the one who sent him. “If you know these things, you are blessed if you do  them
Revelation 1:3
Blessed is the one who reads, and those who hear the words of the prophecy and keep  the things which are written in it; for the time is near.
The bible is clear, God’s favor is extended toward those who walk in His ways.  However we must avoid the temptation to simply find joy in monetary blessings. At this  point many have fallen into the trap of the prosperity gospel. There is a higher purpose  for the blessings that we experience. God’s favor extended to David is a reminder that  God doesn’t want us to simply admire our stuff. The glory of God was revealed as He  blessed His servant David. Remember, this man was passionate for the heart of God.

Our Pastor writes most of the blog posts we publish, however, occasionally some of our other church leadership (some staff, some volunteer) who also contribute to the New Life blog.

Their thoughts are compiled here to help provide an insight into the various ministries in which they serve, as well as a glimpse into their personal walk with the Lord.

Our prayer is for you to be encouraged along life's journey.
