This is critical time to pray for our world and our church! As I think about the challenges of our day I want to call the church to a time of focused prayer. For the next two weeks (beginning on April 1st and ending on April 15th) I would like to invite you to pray as individuals and families twice a day (morning prayer and evening prayer) for our world and our church. As we pray together, remember these two passages.
Habakkuk 3:17-19
Though the fig tree should not blossom And there be no fruit on the vines, Though the yield of the olive should fail And the fields produce no food, Though the flock should be cut off from the fold And there be no cattle in the stalls, Yet I will exult in the Lord, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength, And He has made my feet like hinds’ feet, And makes me walk on my high places. We continue to monitor the changing situation with regard to the COVID-19 (CoronaVirus). Under the direction of our government the elders have determined that it is unwise to meet in groups larger than 10 people.
Dear Church family,
Like many of you, the Harmon family has often found great comfort from the apostle Paul’s words to the Philippians when he wrote, Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 Church membership is a big deal. You will not find a command in scripture to join a church but make no mistake, the new testament community recognized the importance of being members one to another. When you commit yourself to the local church one of the commitments you make is to the leadership.
For the past few Wednesday’s at our student ministry meetings, we have been working through the book of 1 John. I have been amazed that throughout this book there are several realities of the christian life that we tend to forget. In fact I think the book of John issues a great reminder for how we should function as believers today. One reality is that church membership is important.
