For Titus one opposition to gospel integrity is identified in verse 10 For there are many
rebellious men, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision... Here the circumcision party has been identified as rebellious men. Specifically these are men who are under no authority. The party of the circumcision is in direct contrast to the description of elders in v9. They are identified as rebellious, empty talking, and deceivers. The content of their message is deceptive and empty!
Instead of allowing man to be the authority over God’s Word, we must constantly fight our
circumstances and recognize God’s Word as the final authority. To preserve the gospel we must teach this mindset to our children in our homes and in our churches. We must thoughtfully engage the skeptical questions of our age with answers from God’s Word.
I want you to consider this important truth; you will never experience the power of living a fruitful life until you recognize God’s Word as the final authority! The faithful word of God is not mere philosophy that only works in select situations. As we learn to recognize the authoritative nature of God’s word we are conformed to His image. This is the preserved gospel that we are called to faithfully pass to the next generation.
